UAE-Ghana travel: Emirates expands Dubai-Accra services as EK789 lands for first time
New schedule improves connections across Asia, Europe and North America
DUBAI/ACCRA – Emirates flight EK789 touched down at Accra International Airport for the first time this weekend, marking the next phase of the airline's growth in Ghana.
Reflecting the country's rising demand for travel and global connectivity, Emirates now operates 11 weekly services between Dubai and Accra.
The expanded schedule offers passengers greater flexibility and more convenient travel options for business, leisure and visits to friends and family.
Dubai-Accra flight
Operating every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, the additional service complements Emirates' existing daily flight. It introduces an early morning arrival in Accra, improving onward connections for travellers from major inbound markets including India, the US, the UK and Germany.
The outbound service has also been timed to provide convenient connections through Dubai to key business and tourism destinations across Asia, Australia, the US and Saudi Arabia.
Salem Almana, Emirates' Country Manager for Ghana, said the arrival of the additional service reinforces the airline's long-term commitment to the country, which has been an important part of Emirates' African network for more than two decades.
"As travel demand continues to grow, we are pleased to offer our customers greater flexibility and more choice, underpinned by Emirates' world-renowned inflight experience and hospitality," he said.
Emirates in Ghana
Since launching operations to Ghana in 2004, Emirates has played a significant role in linking the country with international markets through its Dubai hub. Over the years, the airline has supported tourism, facilitated business travel and strengthened trade links between Ghana and destinations across its global network.
Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, described the additional Dubai-Accra service as a strong endorsement of Ghana's expanding aviation sector and increasing demand for international connectivity.
She said Emirates' decision to expand its operations would provide passengers with more travel choices while supporting the movement of people, goods and investment. She added that Ghana Airports Company Limited remains committed to working closely with Emirates and its airline partners to strengthen connectivity, enhance the passenger experience and position Accra International Airport as a preferred gateway to West Africa.
Onboard experience
The additional flights are operated using Emirates' Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring eight private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class.
Passengers travelling from Ghana can also enjoy Emirates' award-winning onboard experience, including regionally inspired cuisine and the airline's ice inflight entertainment system, which offers more than 6,500 channels of on-demand entertainment in over 40 languages, including Ghanaian content.
